7 Days to Die in 2025: Every Update from V1.3 to V2.5

Complete recap of 7 Days to Die updates in 2025. Covers V1.3, V1.4, the V2.0 Storm's Brewing overhaul, and the V2.5 Survival Revival update.

After spending over a decade in Early Access, 7 Days to Die hit its official 1.0 release on July 25, 2024. The momentum did not slow down. In 2025, The Fun Pimps shipped eight updates — from incremental stability patches to the massive V2.0 Storm’s Brewing overhaul. Here is every major change that landed this year.

V1.3 — February 12, 2025

The first update of 2025 was a stability and polish patch following the V1.2 Crossplay release from December 2024. V1.3 focused on bug fixes, server stability improvements, and addressing issues reported by the community after crossplay went live. It also included balance adjustments to loot tables and minor UI fixes.

V1.4 — April 11, 2025

V1.4 continued the stabilization work with additional crossplay reliability fixes, performance optimizations for console players, and further balancing passes on crafting and progression. This was the final patch in the 1.x series before the team shifted focus to the 2.0 development cycle.

V2.0 Storm’s Brewing — June 27, 2025

The largest update since the game left Early Access, Storm’s Brewing overhauled multiple core systems and introduced major new features. A streamer preview weekend ran June 13-15, the experimental build launched June 16, and the stable release followed on June 30 for PC and consoles.

Dynamic storm system

Five storm types now sweep across the world with randomized frequency and duration: thunderstorms, ember storms, sand storms, snow storms, and radiation storms. When a severe storm hits, players receive a 60-second warning to find shelter before environmental damage begins. Each biome has its own storm types tied to its hazards.

Biome progression

A new optional system ties environmental hazards to biome difficulty. The Pine Forest remains hazard-free as the starter biome, while the Desert, Snow, Burnt Forest, and Wasteland each present escalating dangers. Players earn Biome Badges by completing seven challenges per region — harvesting biome-specific resources, wearing appropriate armor, and exploring — which can be collected at any Trader.

New enemy types

Two special infected zombies arrived: the Plague Spitter (desert zombie that launches insect swarm attacks) and the Frost Claw (snow zombie with a long-range boulder throw). Two radiated zombie variants also debuted: Charged Blue Zombies and Infernal Orange Zombies with enhanced speed and fire damage.

Perk system overhaul

A new General Perks tab houses skills that are not tied to specific attributes, including five armor perks, Master Chef, and Lock Picking. All attribute categories now feature 10 perks with 5 levels each, plus mastery perks that unlock at level 6 and beyond.

Cosmetic wardrobe system

Players can now separate protective armor from cosmetic appearance. Wear the armor that provides the stats you need while displaying a completely different outfit. The system supports cosmetic DLC packs and Twitch Drops.

Crossplay on dedicated servers

Dedicated servers now support cross-platform play for up to 8 players across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Discord voice chat integration was added as the default communication method with friend list and Rich Presence support.

Map and POI expansion

Nearly 140 new Points of Interest were added, including 125 Remnant tier-0 POIs and three new tier-5 wilderness locations. Navezgane received a complete overhaul with updated biome boundaries, improved Trader proximity, and denser wilderness areas.

Graphics and performance

NVIDIA DLSS upscaling joined the existing FSR options. Trees received unified shaders and reduced draw calls. Larger POIs use improved spawn systems for better performance on both servers and clients.

V2.1 — July 14, 2025

A hotfix release addressing critical bugs and stability issues that surfaced after the V2.0 launch. Server crash fixes and balance adjustments to the new storm system were the primary focus.

V2.2 — August 7, 2025

V2.2 removed the loot stage caps that the community had criticized, lowered the spawn frequency of Plague Spitters and Frost Claws, and included a round of stability fixes. This patch was a direct response to player feedback on the V2.0 balance.

V2.3 — September 9, 2025

Addressed points from The Fun Pimps’ Town Hall stream, including further balance adjustments and community-requested quality-of-life improvements.

V2.4 — October 1, 2025

A required connectivity patch. The planned content additions originally scoped for V2.4 were pushed to V2.5. Bug fixes included a repair to the Shotgun Messiah Factory quest and a progression.xml fix for armor magazine loot probability.

V2.5 Survival Revival — December 18, 2025

The final update of 2025 was a feature-rich release focused on community feedback and the return of long-requested mechanics.

Water survival

Water management returned with scavenging, boiling, jar refunds, and a reworked Dew Collector unlock. New food and water UI bars display stat numbers directly for easier resource planning.

Third-person camera

Full third-person camera support was added with a quick-toggle keybind for seamless switching between perspectives during gameplay.

Smell system 2.0

Meat, cooked food, dysentery gas, and carcasses now attract zombies through a tunable AI smell system. This adds a new layer of base management — where you process and store food matters.

New zombies

Lore-friendly replacements arrived: the Rancher replaced the Plague Spitter and Chuck replaced the Frost Claw, addressing community feedback about the original designs.

Vehicle and crafting additions

Vehicle storage capacity was increased with visual storage mods. A new Apiary workstation produces honey, unlocking recipes like Honey Brisket (150 food points and infection healing).

Free cosmetic content

The Original Survivors Pack and a holiday Santa Hat were released as free cosmetic additions.

What Is Next

V2.6 is already in experimental testing with changes to Dew Collectors, jar crafting, and zombie XP rebalancing. The Fun Pimps continue to iterate rapidly on the post-1.0 foundation, and the game’s player base has remained strong through 2025.
