Terraria 1.4.5 Bigger and Boulder Is Live

After three years of development, Re-Logic released the massive Terraria 1.4.5 update on January 27, 2026. Titled “Bigger and Boulder,” this is one of the largest content patches in Terraria history. For the first time ever, the update launched simultaneously on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and mobile, bringing version parity across every platform.

Whether you are running a Terraria server with friends or exploring solo, 1.4.5 fundamentally expands what the game offers. Here is a breakdown of the biggest changes.

Over 650 New Items

The headline number is staggering. Update 1.4.5 adds more than 650 new items to the game. This includes nine new summoner whips, over 60 new hairstyles, 22 new furniture sets, 20 new paintings, decorative blocks, critters, and dozens of novelty items. Every class benefits from new gear, but summoners in particular received significant attention with the whip additions.

Music also received a major expansion. Eight new boss tracks were added, meaning every boss in Terraria now has its own unique theme. This is a long-requested community feature that adds real atmosphere to boss encounters.

Dead Cells and Palworld Crossovers

Two major crossover events headline the 1.4.5 release.

Dead Cells

The Dead Cells collaboration with Motion Twin introduces five new weapons, a buff station, a vanity set, an accessory, a loyal pet, and a new item display mechanic. Fans of the roguelike action game will recognize the art style and abilities integrated into Terraria.

Palworld

The Palworld crossover goes beyond cosmetics. Summonable Pals function as companions rather than simple vanity pets. Creatures like Digtoise can assist with mining, while other Pals help with gathering and exploration tasks. This makes the crossover feel like a genuine gameplay addition rather than a skin pack.

World Seeds and Seed Combining

The new Skyblock world seed drops you onto a tiny floating island with almost nothing. From there, you must scavenge and build your way to survival. It is one of the most challenging world generation options ever added to Terraria.

Even more interesting is the new seed combination system. Special seeds can now be stacked together, and a new seed selection window in the world creation menu makes it easy to enable multiple special seeds at once. This opens up nearly endless replayability for experienced players looking for fresh challenges.

Crafting and Quality-of-Life Overhaul

The crafting window received a complete overhaul. A search bar and filter tabs now make it far easier to find recipes, especially in the late game when hundreds of items are available. This is one of those changes that sounds minor but dramatically improves day-to-day gameplay.

Banners also got a dedicated Banner Menu. Instead of cluttering your inventory, newly acquired banners are stored in this menu and can be retrieved at will. Mannequins can now hold items and mounts, and they can be posed with a hammer for display purposes.

Spectating and Social Features

A brand-new spectating system lets you watch other players through the Scrying Orb. If you die, you can “haunt” other players by spectating them until you respawn. This is a small but meaningful addition for multiplayer servers where watching boss fights and builds is part of the fun.

Cross-Play Progress

Update 1.4.5 achieved full version parity across all platforms for the first time. Cross-play between PC and mobile went live on launch day, January 27, 2026. Console cross-play between PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch is pending platform certification from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Re-Logic has stated the code is ready and they are waiting on approval.

This is a major milestone for anyone hosting a Terraria multiplayer server. Once full cross-play is live, players on any device will be able to join the same dedicated server.

What This Means for Server Hosts

The 1.4.5 update is fully compatible with dedicated servers. If you are running a Terraria server, you will want to update to 1.4.5 to access the new items, world seeds, and crossover content. Cross-play support also means your server audience could grow significantly once console certification completes.

At Reactor, our Terraria servers support TShock, all world sizes, Journey Mode, and up to 255 players. With the 1.4.5 update live, there has never been a better time to start a server and explore everything Bigger and Boulder has to offer.
