ARK: Survival Ascended 2025 Updates: Lost Colony, New Maps, and the Road to 1.0
Every major ARK: Survival Ascended update in 2025. Covers Lost Colony, remastered maps, creature TLCs, the UE5 upgrade, and the full roadmap ahead.
Studio Wildcard made 2025 a transformative year for ARK: Survival Ascended. From free remastered maps to the first paid canonical expansion, the game matured significantly on its path toward a full 1.0 release. Here is everything that shipped and what the roadmap looks like heading into 2026.
Remastered Map Releases
Throughout 2025, Studio Wildcard delivered a steady cadence of remastered maps from ARK: Survival Evolved, all available for free to base game owners.
Genesis: Part 1 (February 2025)
The Genesis simulation returned, rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5. The five distinct biomes, including the volcanic, arctic, ocean, bog, and lunar zones, received dramatically improved lighting, foliage, and particle effects. Mission-based gameplay was preserved with visual and mechanical polish.
Crystal Isles (April 2025)
Crystal Isles brought its colorful floating crystal formations and expansive biomes to UE5. The map has always been a community favorite for its variety of base locations and diverse creature spawns, and the visual upgrade made it even more striking.
Genesis: Part 2 (May 2025)
The massive Generation Ship map followed shortly after Part 1. The contrast between the lush Eden zone and the corrupted Rockwell side was amplified by the new engine’s rendering capabilities. Missions, Mutagen, and the unique biome-switching mechanics all carried over.
Lost Island (August 2025)
Originally a community-created map, Lost Island was remastered and brought to Ascended with enhanced terrain detail, improved creature AI, and better cave systems. Its combination of diverse biomes in a moderate map size makes it popular for both private and public servers.
Fjordur (October 2025)
Fjordur’s Norse-inspired landscape with its portal-connected realms was one of the most anticipated remasters. The Asgard, Jotunheim, and Vanaheim sub-realms received full UE5 treatment, with dramatically improved snow, lava, and forest environments.
Lost Colony: The First Canonical Expansion
Released on December 19, 2025, Lost Colony is the first paid expansion pack built exclusively for Survival Ascended. Set on a world called Astraeos, it introduced entirely new gameplay systems.
New Progression System
Lost Colony features a skill tree where players earn points by completing milestones and invest them across distinct specialization branches. This adds an RPG layer on top of the traditional engram system.
New Creatures
The expansion launched with over 13 new creatures from the Necrocene era:
- Veilwyn: A fox-like companion that creates portal-like teleportation holes and grants unique buffs, evolving into one of two advanced forms
- Ossidon: A massive primate adapted to frozen environments with cryogenic elemental attacks
- Aureliax: A bioluminescent creature suited to dark cave environments
- Gloon: A creature wielding laser-like projectile attacks
- Gigadesmodus: A colossal flying bat that serves as a late-game aerial mount
Astraeos World
The Astraeos map provides a distinct environment separate from the remastered Survival Evolved maps. It was designed from the ground up for Ascended’s systems, taking full advantage of UE5’s Nanite and Lumen technologies.
Pyranthos Expansion (February 2026)
Following Lost Colony’s launch, Studio Wildcard expanded the Astraeos world with Pyranthos, a vast desert landmass released on February 25, 2026. Key additions include:
- Hydraskos the Unbroken: A multi-headed hydra boss fight requiring coordinated teamwork, with each severed head changing the fight dynamics
- Grand Tortugar: A mobile fortress creature whose carapace opens to shelter multiple riders and closes to form a near-impenetrable bastion
- Returning favorites: Phoenix, Desmodus, Rock Drakes, and Megaraptor made their Astraeos debut
Engine and Performance
An Unreal Engine 5.7 upgrade is planned for late March or April 2026, promising approximately 33% performance improvement on existing maps. The gains come primarily from new Nanite virtualized culling for foliage, which has been one of the biggest performance bottlenecks in heavily vegetated maps.
Creature TLC Updates
Studio Wildcard announced TLC (Tender Loving Care) passes for several classic creatures across 2026 and 2027. Confirmed creatures include the Araneo, Quetzal, Giganotosaurus, Therizinosaurus, and Megalosaurus. Three additional Fantastic Tames are also planned for 2026.
Continued Support Alongside ARK 2
Studio Wildcard has publicly committed to continuing Survival Ascended updates even after ARK 2 launches, as long as player demand supports it. This gives server operators confidence that investing in an Ascended community is a long-term proposition.
