Minecraft Bedrock Edition 2025 Updates: Every Major Change This Year

All Minecraft Bedrock Edition updates from 2025 including Spring to Life, Chase the Skies, Vibrant Visuals, The Copper Age, and Mounts of Mayhem.

Bedrock Edition’s Biggest Year Yet

2025 brought four major game drops and one of the most significant visual overhauls in Minecraft history to Bedrock Edition. From new animal variants and flying mounts to copper golems and spear combat, Bedrock players received a steady stream of meaningful content throughout the year. Here is a comprehensive look at every major Bedrock update released in 2025.

Version 1.21.60 — February 11, 2025

The first update of 2025 arrived in February as a stepping stone toward the Spring to Life drop. It introduced warm and cold pig variants with unique textures and geometry that spawn in different biomes. All leaf blocks received falling leaf particles for the first time. Several features were accessible through experimental toggles, including early versions of the Spring to Life content.

This update also integrated the Villager Trade Rebalance experiment changes to the cartographer and wandering trader, making these adjustments part of the base game.

Version 1.21.70: Spring to Life — March 25, 2025

The first official game drop of 2025 focused entirely on making the Overworld feel more alive and immersive.

Biome-Dependent Animal Variants

Pigs, cows, and chickens received cold and warm variants that spawn based on biome temperature. Cold variants appear in taiga and snowy biomes with thicker fur and muted colors. Warm variants populate deserts, jungles, and savannas with lighter, sun-adapted appearances. Temperate variants fill the remaining biomes. Sheep now spawn with wool colors influenced by their biome.

New Vegetation Blocks

Firefly bushes generate in swamps and near rivers, emitting glowing firefly particles when the light level drops below 14. Wildflowers bloom in birch forests and meadows. Bushes, cactus flowers, dry grass, and leaf litter added natural variety across multiple biomes. Fallen tree structures now generate as decorative elements.

Ambient Atmosphere

New ambient sounds play near sand, terracotta, and dead bush blocks. Wolf sound personalities add character to tamed wolves. All leaf blocks now produce falling leaf particles, previously limited to cherry and pale oak trees.

Version 1.21.90: Chase the Skies — June 17, 2025

The second game drop introduced aerial exploration, a groundbreaking visual system, and significant quality-of-life improvements.

Happy Ghasts

The headline feature across both editions, happy ghasts are friendly aerial mounts capable of carrying up to four players. Players equip them with harnesses and ride through the skies, tethering boats and animals behind them. This opened up entirely new ways to travel and explore the Overworld.

Vibrant Visuals

Exclusive to Bedrock at launch, Vibrant Visuals is the most significant graphical upgrade in Minecraft’s history. It adds real-time water shaders with reflections and caustics, specular highlights on surfaces, emissive textures that make light sources glow realistically, and directional lighting with dynamic shadows.

Vibrant Visuals is a client-side toggle under Video settings. Players need compatible hardware (DirectX 12 on PC, or current-generation consoles). Some dedicated servers may disable the option through server.properties using the disable-client-vibrant-visuals flag, though most servers leave it as a player choice.

Craftable Saddles

For the first time in Minecraft’s history, saddles became craftable using three leather and one iron ingot. This small but impactful change eliminates the randomness of finding saddles in dungeon chests.

Improved Leads and Player Locator Bar

Lead mechanics were overhauled with improved physics. The Player Locator Bar, a new UI element, displays the direction of other players in multiplayer sessions, making it far easier to coordinate during exploration.

Version 1.21.111: The Copper Age — September 30, 2025

The third game drop expanded copper from a mostly decorative material into a full gameplay system.

Copper Golem

The copper golem is a passive mob that automatically sorts items placed in copper chests into regular chests around your base. It oxidizes over time like copper blocks, eventually becoming a decorative statue in one of four poses. Players can wax copper golems to prevent oxidation, keeping them functional indefinitely.

Full Copper Equipment

A complete set of copper tools, weapons, and armor arrived. Copper tools deal stone-level damage but offer higher enchantability than diamond. Copper armor provides protection between leather and iron with the unique trait of not oxidizing. Copper horse armor was also introduced.

Shelves and Decorative Copper

Shelves display up to three items and can be connected via redstone for automated item swapping. New decorative copper blocks include lanterns, torches, chains, and bars. All new copper blocks oxidize and can be waxed, matching existing copper behavior.

Version 1.21.130: Mounts of Mayhem — December 9, 2025

The final game drop of 2025 combined mounted combat with underwater exploration and new weapon mechanics.

Spears

A new tiered weapon with two attack styles: the quick jab and the powerful charged attack. Spears have longer reach than swords and feature a unique Lunge enchantment that grants a burst of forward speed, strong enough to dismount riders from their mounts.

New Mounts and Mobs

Nautiluses are tameable aquatic mounts that grant riders the Breath of the Nautilus effect, freezing their oxygen bar for unlimited underwater breathing. Zombie nautiluses spawn naturally and are sometimes ridden by drowned. Camel husks are undead mounts in desert biomes. Zombie horses now spawn naturally in the wild. A new skeleton variant called the parched appears in deserts and shoots weakness-tipped arrows.

Swimming Mounts and Netherite Horse Armor

Most mounts can now swim without sinking when ridden. Netherite horse armor was introduced with 19 armor points and 3 armor toughness, crafted by upgrading diamond horse armor at a smithing table.

New Version Numbering for 2026

Starting in 2026, Bedrock Edition adopts a year-based version format. Bedrock Edition 26.0, released February 10, 2026, was the first release using this system. The format starts with the year number, followed by a release counter. This aligns Bedrock versioning more closely with Java Edition’s new system, making it easier for players and creators to track which drops correspond across editions.
