Valheim 2025-2026 Updates: Call to Arms, Five Years, and the Road to 1.0
A complete overview of Valheim's biggest updates in 2025 and 2026, including Call to Arms, the Five Years anniversary patch, and the upcoming Deep North biome.
Valheim has had one of its most exciting years yet. From a massive combat overhaul in the Call to Arms update to the celebratory Five Years anniversary patch, Iron Gate Studio has kept Vikings busy throughout 2025 and into 2026. Here is everything you need to know about the latest Valheim updates and what lies ahead.
Call to Arms (Patch 0.221.4) — September 2025
Released on September 9, 2025, Call to Arms is one of the most ambitious updates Valheim has ever received. It fundamentally reworks how combat feels with the introduction of an entirely new resource system and equipment type.
The Adrenaline System
At the heart of Call to Arms is Adrenaline, a new resource that builds as you fight. You generate Adrenaline by hitting enemies, triggering Forsaken Powers, performing Perfect Blocks and Perfect Parries, and casting magic. Once the bar fills completely, you receive an Adrenaline Surge that grants a temporary combat perk.
Trinkets: A New Equipment Type
The perk you receive from an Adrenaline Surge depends on your equipped Trinket. Trinkets are the first entirely new equipable item type added to Valheim since launch. These relics amplify the Adrenaline system and offer unique combat advantages, giving players meaningful choices about their build and playstyle.
New Enemies and Gear
Call to Arms introduces Bears and their undead counterparts, the Viles. Defeating these creatures rewards new crafting materials used to create the Bear armor set and other gear. The update adds two new monster types, eight crafting recipes, seven pieces of clothing, and eighteen new weapons in total.
Combat Refinements
The update also introduces Perfect Dodge Rolls, a new skill that rewards precise timing with stamina regeneration. Perfect Blocks no longer cost stamina at all, making skilled defensive play far more viable. Wooden practice weapons let you spar with friends safely, and a new Combat Arena provides a dedicated space for testing loadouts and dueling.
Engine Upgrade
Under the hood, Valheim was upgraded to Unity 6000.0.46f. This brings improved stability, better network synchronization to reduce lag and desync, and overall smoother performance across all platforms.
Five Years of Valheim (Patch 0.221.10) — February 2026
On February 2, 2026, Valheim celebrated its fifth anniversary since entering Early Access. Iron Gate marked the occasion with Patch 0.221.10, a celebration-plus-polish update that mixes fun cosmetics with meaningful technical improvements.
Anniversary Content
The patch adds new emotes, hairstyles, and a commemorative hat. Decorative flower and fey light garlands let you spruce up your base, while the Frosted Sweetbread consumable gives you a treat worthy of the celebration. A playfully named weapon class, the Early Axes, rounds out the additions with a nod to the game’s long Early Access journey.
A revamped radial emote menu makes it easier to express yourself with new options like “vibe” and “love you.”
Technical Polish
The Five Years patch introduces new graphics settings including a 3D resolution limiter and updated SSAO options. These provide more granular control over visual quality, particularly beneficial for Steam Deck, Xbox, and Mac players who need to balance fidelity with performance.
Earlier 2025 Patches
Before Call to Arms, Iron Gate shipped several smaller but important updates:
- Patch 0.220.3 (March 2025): Fixed memory leaks and corrected snap points for build pieces.
- Patch 0.220.4 (March 2025): Resolved an Xbox crash when entering suspend mode during online multiplayer, fixed controller navigation for boss and death markers, and adjusted pause menu positioning.
- Patch 0.220.5 (April 2025): Additional stability fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
What Comes Next: Deep North and Version 1.0
Iron Gate has confirmed that the Deep North is the final biome update and the gateway to Valheim’s official 1.0 release. The frozen northern reaches of the map have been visible but inaccessible since the game first launched, and the studio has stated that “2026 is going to be a great year for Valheim.”
While no exact date has been announced, community estimates and developer communications suggest that the Deep North update and 1.0 launch could arrive in mid-2026. Alongside the final biome, Iron Gate plans to add comprehensive achievements for Steam and Xbox, robust mod support, and a full polish pass across all existing biomes.
Platform Expansion
Valheim is also coming to PlayStation 5 in 2026 with full crossplay support, connecting PS5 players with the existing PC and Xbox communities. A Nintendo Switch 2 version has also been confirmed for 2026 with crossplay included.
